competition for the memorial to the victims in the plane crash 7K9268

Soul, body, and personal space – these constitute all that is most important to a human being.

Tragedy may claim bodies, but it is powerless to carry away human souls...

In memory of them – the two hundred and fourteen suddenly departed – the idea of this memorial emerged: to materialize our conception of the only eternal aspect of a human being – their spirit.

Over a span of time, collective consciousness has accumulated a vast array of visual symbols representing the human soul, and one of the vivid images is the immaterial substance in the form of an ellipsoidal sphere resembling an egg.

Architectural Concept
Within a square of 25.2 by 25.2 meters, with 1.8 meters (in accordance with the theory of personal space Dimensions of the Human Figure / Ernest Irving Frederickson), there are 15 rows of 15 stelae. In the very center, a stela is absent, and its omission in the strict grid system of the plan creates an effect of sparse space, simultaneously evoking associations with a small square at the intersection of streets in an old Mediterranean town and the dome of the Roman Pantheon.
The stelae serve as metaphors for threads - connections between earth and sky in memory of those who left us. At the upper point of each stela's base, ellipsoids are positioned – oriented at a 45-degree angle to the east, depicting soul images into the sky.

The size of the spherical ellipsoid depends on the age of the departed – the smallest one, in memory of a child born in 2014...

The height of the threads and the positioning of the spheres at the upper point are calculated according to the principles of a hyperbolic surface, reminding us of the sudden mass departure from the realm of the living...

Technical Description
The material of the stelae is a composite seamless hot-rolled thick-walled stainless steel tube with a titanium nitride coating. The upper shaped base is made of stainless steel and has an internal light source.
The spherical ellipsoid is crafted from translucent Selenite stone. The stone is fixed in the base using pins inserted into holes drilled at various angles from the bottom of the sphere.
